Introduction
Hover over a button and it gently bounces. Scroll down and a picture slides in, just a little late, like it's waking up. These tiny movements are called micro-interactions. Most people never notice them on purpose, but they make a website feel alive.
A small studio in Jakarta has built its whole identity around them.
Surd Studio is a website and product design studio in Jakarta, Indonesia, started in 2024. It describes itself as building digital artifacts for brands who refuse to blend in, with a focus on micro-interactions and seamless experiences. It designs and builds sites in tools like Framer and Shopify. Its co-founder, Agnes Andreyana, is an interaction designer. One public project is a Shopify store for Heavenly by Nia, a Gen Z skincare brand.
I'll be honest: this is the newest and smallest studio in this whole series. It's also the closest to what I do. I'll try to be fair about both its energy and its risks.
Quick Answer: Should You Hire Surd Studio?
Maybe, if you're a small, trendy brand that wants a playful Framer or Shopify site with lots of detail in the motion. If you need a proven team with years of reviews, or full branding, look elsewhere.

How I Researched Surd Studio
Disclosure: my service appears in the alternatives table, and Surd Studio is a direct competitor. We both design and build websites in Framer with small animations. The difference: Surd is a small team in Jakarta, while I'm one designer on a monthly retainer.
I haven't worked with Surd Studio. On November 2, 2026, I read its Framer community profile, its co-founder's Framer page, a 2025 university internship report that describes the studio, a Contra project page and a bookmark listing. Sources are few and very recent, so treat this review as an early look.
What Is Surd Studio?
Surd Studio is a young digital design studio. Most of what we know comes from a 2025 internship report by a student who worked there.
Here's what that report and other sources say:
Started: 2024, in Jakarta.
Focus: UI/UX and website design.
Early work: landing pages, portfolio sites and company websites.
Growth: in its first year, it began taking more complex projects.
Team: a founder and co-founder (both interaction designers), a junior interaction designer and an intern.
The founders lead the early steps of each project, like client meetings. That means you talk directly to the people who design.
What Does Surd Studio Do?
Service | In simple words | Real example |
|---|---|---|
Website design | Designing how a site looks | Landing pages and portfolios |
Micro-interactions | Small animations that feel alive | Its main focus on Framer |
Framer builds | No-code websites with motion | Its Framer community profile |
Shopify stores | Online shops | Heavenly by Nia skincare |
Product design | App and web product screens | Listed as a service |
Company websites | Sites for businesses | Mentioned in the report |
The Heavenly by Nia project shows Surd's style. It's a skincare brand for Gen Z, with Y2K-inspired branding: think early-2000s colors and shapes. Surd designed and built a Shopify website that matches that playful look.
What Does Surd Studio Charge?
Option | Price | What to know |
|---|---|---|
Minimum project | Not public | Ask directly |
Landing page | Custom quote | Often the smallest job |
Company website | Custom quote | Depends on pages |
Shopify store | Custom quote | Apps and themes may cost extra |
Product design | Custom quote | Ask about scope |
The catch to plan for
A new, small team often means personal service and fair prices. But it also means little track record and limited backup if someone is sick or busy. Ask who will build your site, how long support lasts after launch and what happens if the team changes.
A real-world scenario
Picture a new bubble tea brand that mainly sells to students. It wants a fun one-page website with a menu, store locations and lots of personality.
Surd's focus on micro-interactions fits well. It might design a playful landing page in Framer where drinks bounce or fill up as you scroll. If I owned the brand, I'd ask Surd to keep the animations light on mobile, because most students will visit on their phones.
What Are Clients Saying About Surd Studio?
I didn't find Clutch, Google or Sortlist reviews. Here's what I found:
A Shopify project for Heavenly by Nia, shown on Contra.
A Framer community profile with its own posts.
A university internship report, which shows real projects and a structured team.
Surd calls itself award-winning on Framer, but I couldn't find which award. Ask them to show it.
Can You Trust Surd Studio?
Probably, yes, but with care. It's a real Jakarta studio with a named co-founder and real client work. It's very new, though, so ask for references and a clear contract.
What I Think as a Designer
What I love is the focus on tiny details. Micro-interactions are where good websites become great ones. A button that responds well feels like a polite person.
I use the same tools, and I've learned one rule: less is more. One or two well-placed animations feel premium. Twenty feel tiring. Ask Surd how they decide what to animate.
My caution is clear: Surd is young and small. That can be great for attention and price, but risky for big or long projects.
What Surd Studio Does Well
Micro-interactions and motion.
Framer website builds.
Shopify stores for young brands.
Direct contact with founders.
Fresh, playful style.
Where Surd Studio Falls Short
Very new (2024).
Small team of about four.
No online reviews.
Unclear award claim.
No full branding service shown.
Who Is Surd Studio Right For?
Surd Studio suits you if you're:
a young lifestyle or beauty brand,
a startup needing a playful landing page,
a small shop wanting a Shopify store,
a creator needing a portfolio site.
Who Should Skip Surd Studio?
Look elsewhere if you need:
a large or complex web app,
full brand strategy and identity,
a team with years of reviews,
print or packaging design.
What to Ask Surd Studio on the First Call
"Which award did your studio win?"
"Who will build our site, a founder or the junior team?"
"How do you keep animations fast on phones?"
"How long do you support the site after launch?"
"Can we talk to one of your past clients?"
"What does a five-page Framer site usually cost?"

small website animations and interactions,
banners, posters and social media content.
